Reduce Risk for Cheaper Flood Insurance

If you are paying high insurance premiums, your structure may not be built in compliance with the current flood damage prevention standards.  By retrofitting your structure to reduce risk, you have the opportunity to lower your insurance premium.  As a general rule, insurance premiums increase as risk of damage increases.

Retrofits to reduce risk are strategic investments that vary in scope and have successfully helped Central Point residents over the past few years.  Examples of structural retrofits include but are not limited to:

  • Elevating the foundation, so the first floor is equal to or greater than 1-foot above the Base Flood Elevation (BFE);
  • Installing foundation openings to equalize water pressure (hydrostatic force);
  • Elevating all mechanical equipment, including HVAC, so that all components are at least 1-foot above the BFE; and,
  • Utilizing flood resistant materials in areas below the protected elevation (1-ft above BFE).

Property Protection Assistance

The City offers property protection consultations to help landowners determine if there are retrofit options available.  To do this, we need to know your address and have a current Elevation Certificate.    For more information or to schedule a consultation please contact our floodplain management staff.
