Central Point Business License Summary

The Finance Department processes business licenses for the city.  City Ordinance 5.04 requires that anyone conducting business within the City of Central Point must obtain a business license whether it is a business location established within the city limits of the city, a business located outside the city but coming into the city to do business, or a peddler coming into the city limits to do business on a short term basis.  If a business is based in a home located within the city limits of Central Point, then a Home Occupation Application must be completed.

Apply for a Business License

All applications are processed electronically; if you do not have access to a computer, a kiosk is available for public use at City Hall.  If you are leasing your business property, you will need to submit a Written Authorization of Property Owner form with your application.

Applications, with the payment selection of cash or check, will not be processed until payment is received; VISA and Mastercard payments will be processed immediately. Please allow 2-3 weeks for processing.

Process
Applications are circulated for approval through the Planning, Building, Police, Public Works, and Administration Departments.

  1. The Community Development Department will verify that the type of business is located in the correct zone.  The different zones insure that similar compatible uses are in close proximity with one another.  If a conditional use permit is required, the Community Development Department will initiate that process.  Community Development will either approve or deny the Home Occupation Permit, and will notify the applicant of the conditions or findings.
  2. The Building Department will verify that all contractors are currently licensed with the Oregon Construction Contractors Board.  All contractors must be licensed through the state in order to work inside the city.  If a special inspection of a building is required, the Building Department will initiate it.
  3. The Police Department runs a background check on all applicants.
  4. The Public Works Department will check for backflow prevention devices and verify that they have been recently tested.  If there are additional System Development Charges required, the Public Works Department will initiate those.
  5. The Administrative Department reviews applications to keep the Mayor and Council informed of what is happening within the City as well as look for any sales of alcohol to ensure the proper procedures are taken.
