Thank you for your interest in supporting our city. CERT provides an invaluable service to the public, other first response organizations, and the general community.

All CERT members complete a free basic training course before applying to a team. Basic Training is a weekend long series where you will learn about disaster preparedness and response, as well as the procedures and goals of CERT Trainees will gain skills and working knowledge specific to first response in a disaster. All members will be equipped with team-specific gear, and provided a list of recommended items to include in a field pack, which will double as an emergency supply kit for most.

____________

What have CERTs have done for my community?

A few services CP CERT has been deployed for in the past are to:
Help ODF spot and manage wildfire relief and public;
Provide First Aid to participants of local events;
Public information and disaster awareness resource;
Guide traffic during street events (marathons/runs, parades, accidents);
Create a Firewise neighborhood by promoting and helping create a defensible space for residential homes.

What might a CP CERT be called to do?

First response in the aftermath of natural disasters such as earthquakes, storms, floods, or fires (and in some cases, manmade disasters):
        Provide triage and first aid relief to victims
        Establish treatment and transportation areas for victims
        Search and Rescue of light to moderately damaged structures
        Inform other authorities of our field observations and recommended priorities
Manage a sandbagging station during times of flood risk and teach citizens proper sandbagging
Assist in the evacuation of neighborhoods
Serve as a call station when an agency is overwhelmed by public calls
Support other first responders and agencies in support of public safety
Direct traffic during large accidents or times of expected high congestion

As a CERT member, will I be put in dangerous situations?

Volunteers are under no obligation to carry out any assignment they are not comfortable with or able to perform. Your safety and well-being are priority.
