Property and Evidence 

The Central Point Police Department Property and Evidence staff is charged with maintaining the integrity of the property and evidence in accordance with all department policies as well as state and federal laws. Central Point Police Department Property and Evidence currently has over 8,500 active pieces of property/evidence and is getting new property/evidence daily. All property taken into the Police Department is entered into a computerized tracking system and given a barcode for easy tracking. 

The Property and Evidence staff also transport evidence to the Oregon State Police Crime Lab for additional processing and can be asked to testify in court.

Release of Property 

 

​Evidence

Any property taken in by the Central Point Police Department as evidence is required to be kept until the adjudication of the case. Once the Property and Evidence is given the required notification of the adjudication, the property will be available for release.

RELEASES REQUIRE A VALID PHOTO ID UPON RELEASE OF PROPERTY AND IT IS ENCOURAGED TO CALL AHEAD TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT.

Found Property

All found property taken by the Central Point Police Department will be held for 90 days.

If you are the finder of any property turned in to the Central Point Police Department, you may be eligible to file a Finder's Claim pursuant to ORS 98.0005. Instructions for filing a claim can be found on the back of Property Receipt form. For more information please click HERE.

Bicycle Registration

The Central Point Police does not register bicycles at our department but suggests participation in the 529 Project (formerly known as the National Bike Registry) program, which can be viewed HERE.

Release of Guns

The release of weapons is by appointment only. Please be sure to call in advance and schedule an appointment prior to arrival to retrieve firearms. A background check will be performed upon release of any weapon. If any ammunition was also taken, a separate appointment will be made for the release of the ammunition.

Unclaimed Property

Any property that was unable to be returned to an owner is auctioned by Property Room.com or donated to charitable organizations. Contraband items are destroyed.

PUBLIC NOTICE – FEBRUARY 8TH, 2024

The Central Point Police Department has in its physical possession the following unclaimed personal property: Bicycles, backpacks, phones, tools, and other personal items. If you have any ownership interest in any of the unclaimed property, you must file a claim with the Central Point Police Department within 30 days from the date of publication of this notice, or you will lose your interest in that property in accordance with ORS 98.245. Sufficient description of the property to establish reasonable certainty that the person claiming the property is the owner must be presented.
