Traffic Citation Information
If you received a traffic citation from a Central Point Police Officer, you have several options to take care of this. First, before assuming the citation was issued through Central Point Municipal Court, check the address listed on the bottom of your citation. Just because a Central Point Officer cited you, doesn't mean the citation automatically goes to our Municipal Court. If you were cited outside the city limits, it may have been written through Jackson County Circuit Court or Southern County Justice Court.
If you wish to enter a plea before the judge, your appearance date and time is on the bottom of your citation. You may also use one of the following options on or before your initial appearance date:
Option #1: Enter a plea of "guilty" and pay the base fine
Personal appearance at the court clerk’s counter.
By mail with check or money order – please read the back of your citation and sign where noted.
By telephone with MasterCard / Visa at (541) 423-1037 or 664-3321 x 200.
Option #2: Enter a plea of "guilty" or "no contest" with an explanation to the Judge
The court clerk is not able to accept your explanation into consideration when imposing a fine. You must make your plea and explanation to the Judge. You can do this one of two ways:
Central Point Municipal Court
140 S. 3rd Street,
Central Point, OR 97502
A "guilty" or "no contest" plea does result in a conviction and will appear on your driving record with the DMV.
Option #3: Enter a "not guilty" plea and request a trial
You have the right to enter a plea of not guilty.
You can either enter the plea by mail or in person. Upon entry of a not guilty plea, the Court will schedule a trial date for you. You will be notified in writing of your trial date - so make sure the court clerk has a valid mailing address and telephone number for you.
Be aware, if you fail to appear at your scheduled trial, you could be found guilty with full fines and additional fees assessed, and your driving privileges suspended.
