Bike Team
The bicycle patrol unit began in 2004 with one police mountain bike and two officers. Since then the police department has taken an aggressive approach to this very effective patrol tool and added more bicycles and officers to the unit. The Central Point Police Bike Team consists of one Sergeant and five Officers. The bike team officers are each assigned a Cannondale Police Interceptor bicycle.

The officers on bicycle patrol are utilized on day and night shifts and during special events. They concentral their patrols on the downtown area as well as the parks and areas hard to patrol by vehicle. The bicycle may also be used to patrol residential areas that are prone to thefts from vehicles and outlying businesses. The bicycle allows the officers to interact with citizens easier and mkae personal one on one contacts. The bike team officers are available to teach bicycle safety, helmet fit, and bicycle laws at the elementary schools, as well as community groups and events.
All of the officers assigned to the bicycle patrol unit complete a 40 hour police mountain bike training course, certified by the Law Enforcement Bicycle Assocation. Officers also receive an additional in house training each year.
Sgt. Jeff Britton is the bicycle patrol unit supervisor and is a Law Enforcement Bicycle Association instructor. Officers assigned to the unit are Corporal Randy Clark, Officer Jarod Pomeroy, Corporal Louis Fulmer, and Corporal Scott Logue. Detective Brian Day is also a Law Enforcement Bicycle Association Instructor.
