Lt. Newell Header

 

The Operations Division is commanded by Lieutenant Chuck Newell.

 

Lieutenant Charles Newell moved with his family from Los Angeles to Central Point in 1973. A 1975 graduate of Crater High School, he’s also attended Rogue Community College and Southern Oregon University. He and his wife married in 1976, together; they enjoy family time with their daughter, son-in-law and grandchild.

Lieutenant Newell’s interest in law enforcement began in Los Angeles where he joined the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Explorer Program, in 1971. As a teen, the Deputy Explorer Program afforded a great opportunity to explore some of the many facets of law enforcement. It was in 1984 that he joined the Central Point Police Department.

Lieutenant Newell currently holds a Department of Public Safety Standards and Training Mid-Management Certificate and is a graduate of the 2006 Oregon Executive Development Institute.

Lieutenant Newell’s extensive law enforcement carrier with the Central Point Police Department has encompassed many arenas including; Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Reserve Officer Coordinator, Officer Training Coordinator, Tactical Team Leader, Special Event Coordinator, Narcotic Detective, Detective CID, Patrol Sergeant and Detective Sergeant. He has served on the following special teams and attends multiple discipline meetings; Jackson County Narcotic Enforcement Team (JACNET), Major Assault/Death Investigation Unit (MADIU), Sexual Assault Response Team (SART), Region 5 Training Council Board Member, Southern Oregon Financial Fraud and Security Team (SOFFAST), Southern Oregon Regional Anti-Terrorist Team, and Senior Services Team Review.

Lieutenant Newell is a certified "content" instructor in five training disciplines through the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training. He has instructed law enforcement classes at Rogue Community College, Southern Oregon University, Reserve Officer Law Enforcement Academy and for various local law enforcement agencies. He has been a board member of the Region 5 Training Council for several years.

Lieutenant Newell demonstrates a great sense of dedication for the people of Central Point and the Central Point Police Department which he so proudly serves.
