The Central Point Police Department is pleased to launch a new interactive Internet tool to increase public safety and crime prevention within the City of Central Point. The website which interfaces with CrimeView, a crime analysis program used by the Central Point Police Department provides up to date information about crime incidents within the City of Central Point. This online crime mapping tool is designed to keep citizens aware of crime where they live and work and help the Central Point Police Department solve crime.
The website features many tools for users, including:
- The ability to enter an address to find crime incidents within a user defined perimeter around that address.
- Users can see all reported crimes on an interactive map and click on icons for further information about those incidents.
- Users can define the time span to view crime information.
- Users can filter the type of criminal activity to view.
- Users have the ability to view maps in satellite, road, or a hybrid view.
- Users can run interactive trend reports to show crime trends during a given time period in a graphical view.
- Users can run detailed reports sorting by crime type, description, case number, location, agency and date.
- Users can sign up for email alerts, being alerted anytime an incident occurs within the geographical boundary set by the user.
In addition to the crime prevention and awareness benefits this website provides, it also provides a tool for the public and business community. Individuals can now find out criminal activity history for an area of the city which may be helpful to prospective homeowners, renters or property owners.
The Medford Police Department also utilizes the online CrimeView product, making Central Point and Medford the only two agencies using this specific tool in the State of Oregon. This collaboration allows users to scroll the interactive map between Medford and Central Point and see all crime incidents and run reports for both cities.
Not all crimes that occur within the City of Central Point are shown on the interactive map, incidents such as some traffic crimes, sexual assaults and other sensitive cases are not shown.
To visit the online crime map you can visit the Central Point Police Department's webpage at www.centralpointoregon.gov/police_home.aspx and click on "Interactive Crime Map" on the homepage.
